The Global Autism Project is excited to announce that Gary A. Maffei, CEO and Executive Director of QSAC is one of the newest members of our Board of Directors. The Global Autism Project has had a history of strong and committed leadership and we’re confident that Gary Maffei will be a great fit for our team.
As a Board member, Mr Maffei shares with six others the responsibility of leadership over an International organization founded in 2003 with partnerships in four countries. The Global Autism Project provides training in clinical practices as well as sustainable business practices to build local capacity to provide exceptional services to people with autism internationally.
Maffei has been executive director and CEO of Quality Services for the Autism Community (QSAC) since 1992. He brought to that post more than 30 years experience as a senior-level administrator with several non-profit organizations.
Prior to joining QSAC, Mr. Maffei served from 1987 as executive director of the AIDS Center of Queens County. In that post, he managed a staff of professionals in client services and public education. While serving the center, Mr. Maffei was elected to the board of directors of the New York AIDS Coalition in 1988, and was appointed by the NYC Mayor, to two citywide councils—the Mayor’s Police Council in 1989, and the Ryan White HIV Council in 1991. From 1993 to 2001, Mr. Maffei served as chair of the Queens Borough President’s Task Force on Disabilities. In 1994, he served as a committee chair for the Queens Development Disability Council. In 1999 he was elected to the Inter-Agency Council on Developmental Disabilities board of directors and today also serves on its Executive Committee.
Mr. Maffei previously served with the NYS Commission on Quality of Care and NYC Community Board M-5. On June 19, 2001, Borough President, Schulman, declared “Gary Maffei Day,” in Queens, recognizing his tireless efforts and years of service to the Queens community. Borough President Marshall presented him with a Citation of Honor in 2007 and PFLAG awarded him their 2009 Tavadia Memorial Award. He earned a master of public administration and a bachelors of arts degree in political science from CW Post, LIU.

The Project employs a two-part approach with training in clinical as well as sustainable businesses practices. This approach builds local capacity to provide excellent services for individuals with autism Worldwide.
